Impact

1. Social Impact Employment creation: Jakiitto Beverages Limited directly employs youth and women in fruit processing, packaging, and distribution. The business also supports hundreds of smallholder pineapple farmers by providing a reliable market, creating ripple employment in harvesting, transport, and supply chains. Rural livelihood improvement: By buying pineapples directly from farmers in Wakiso and surrounding districts at fair prices, the company boosts household incomes and reduces post-harvest losses. This helps small-scale farmers earn more and sustain their families. Food security and nutrition: The innovation promotes access to natural, chemical-free beverages and snacks rich in vitamins and fiber. It encourages healthy consumption among both urban and rural consumers while reducing dependency on imported, sugary drinks. Youth empowerment and skills development: The company trains local youth in fruit processing, entrepreneurship, quality control, and marketing ,building local capacity and reducing unemployment. Waste reduction and environmental sustainability: Through value addition and responsible waste management, pineapple peels and residues are used to make organic liquid fertilizers or compost, promoting a circular and eco-friendly production model. 2. Economic Impact Value addition and export potential: The innovation transforms raw pineapples into high-value products (long-life juice and dried snacks), increasing the overall value retained within Uganda and opening up regional export opportunities. Increased tax revenue and local economic activity: As production and sales grow, Jakiitto contributes to Uganda’s economy through taxes, local procurement, and business-to-business transactions with packaging suppliers, transporters, and retailers. Reduction of post-harvest losses: Previously, a large percentage of pineapples went to waste due to lack of processing capacity. The innovation converts surplus fruit into long-shelf products, stabilizing prices and improving farmer income stability. Stimulation of the agri-food value chain: The enterprise strengthens the linkages between agriculture, processing, logistics, and retail ,making the pineapple value chain more efficient and profitable. Contribution to Uganda’s industrialization goals: The project aligns with national and regional priorities to promote agro-processing, import substitution, and youth-led innovation, directly supporting Vision 2040 and SDGs 1, 2, 8, 9, and 12.
